From\u00a0<\/span><\/b>P<\/span><\/b>recarious to Inclusive City<\/span><\/b>:<\/span><\/b><\/b><\/p>\n Introduction for Participants<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n A Workshop\u00a0<\/span>for Building an<\/span><\/p>\n East Asian Inclusive City Network<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n Hosted<\/span>\u00a0by<\/span><\/p>\n URP Taipei Sub<\/span>–<\/span>center<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>National Taiwan\u00a0<\/span>University<\/span><\/p>\n in collaboration with the<\/span><\/p>\n U<\/span>rban Research Plaza, Osaka City University<\/span><\/p>\n on March 10<\/span>\u00a0(Thu.)\u00a0<\/span>–<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>March 11\u00a0<\/span>(Fri.)<\/span>, 2011<\/span><\/p>\n at<\/span>\u00a0National Taiwan<\/span>\u00a0University,\u00a0<\/span>Taipei, Taiwan<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Objective<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n In recent years poverty has\u00a0<\/span>been concentrating in<\/span>\u00a0cities<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and this\u00a0<\/span>phenomenon of\u00a0<\/span>‘urbanization of poverty’ is\u00a0<\/span>receiving great\u00a0<\/span>attention<\/span>\u00a0from the policy makers as well as academic researchers<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The focus here is on how to address the demands of\u00a0<\/span>socially disadvantaged\u00a0<\/span>groups\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>vulnerable<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>urban areas<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>and how to regenerate the neighbourhoods which are facing<\/span>\u00a0social exclusion\u00a0<\/span>through urban (re)development<\/span>. In fighting against exclusion, the\u00a0<\/span>voices of the\u00a0<\/span>disadvantaged<\/span>\u00a0groups<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>neighbourhood<\/span>\u00a0people\u00a0<\/span>cannot be overlooked.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In East Asian countries<\/span>\u00a0like\u00a0<\/span>Japan, S<\/span>outh<\/span>\u00a0Korea, Taiwan, and China(including Hong Kong SAR)\u00a0<\/span>, as the global forces are pushing for eco<\/span>nomic and industrial\u00a0<\/span>restructuring,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>there have been more difficulties for people in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>obtaining<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>stable\u00a0<\/span>employment<\/span>\u00a0and entitlement<\/span>s<\/span>, including<\/span>\u00a0health<\/span>\u00a0care<\/span>, education, housing, etc<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0To address these issues, we have\u00a0<\/span>formed<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0East Asian Inclusive City Network.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>This workshop\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0<\/span>expected to be\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0start point for\u00a0<\/span>building up the<\/span>\u00a0network and will\u00a0<\/span>celebrate the establishment of<\/span>\u00a0the Taipei Sub-center .<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \n Participants<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n Each\u00a0<\/span><\/i>Sub-center\u00a0<\/span><\/i>(HK SAR, Taiwan, Shanghai, S. Korea)\u00a0<\/span><\/i>is<\/span><\/i>\u00a0expected\u00a0<\/span><\/i>to bring\u00a0<\/span><\/i>3 to 6 pe<\/span><\/i>ople<\/span><\/i>\u00a0to join this workshop<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>(for the host city Taipei, the number of participants is flexible).<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n \n Language<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n This workshop will be conducted in the local language via one-by-one interpretation (not simultaneous).<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n Participant’s Fee<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n In principle, each participant from overseas will need to pay\u00a0<\/span><\/i>for\u00a0<\/span><\/i>themselves (using their sub-center budget) for their stay during the workshop. However, fees for several participants will be paid for by the Osaka office.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n \u203b<\/span>The\u00a0<\/span>Taipei sub-center will be expected to shoulder the management cost of the workshop.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n Output<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n We intend to publish a\u00a0<\/span>document series through the URP, OCU<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n (Video programs will also be considered).<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n Program<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n Preliminary session(March 9 Afternoon)<\/span><\/b><\/b><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n \u2160<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Session : Understanding and Sharing Experiences of Each Practices for Inclusion<\/span><\/b>(March 10)<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n This\u00a0<\/span>session<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>consist of\u00a0<\/span>f<\/span>ield\u00a0<\/span>t<\/span>rip<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>free\u00a0<\/span>discussion for understanding each countr<\/span>y’s context<\/span>\u00a0regarding<\/span>\u00a0g<\/span>overnment\u00a0<\/span>p<\/span>olicy\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>mplementation and practices by NGOs, which can be included in the\u00a0<\/span>following sub-them<\/span>e<\/span>s:<\/span><\/p>\n (1)\u00a0<\/span>A<\/span>lternative Urban Regeneration for Socially Disadvantaged Areas, (2)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Supportive Services for\u00a0<\/span>\n\n
