Establishing Association for Urban Creativity (AUC)
Establishing AUC is a project stemming out of the research program at Osaka City University 'Reinventing the City for Cultural Creativity and Social Inclusion'. This program was selected as Global Center of Excellence by Japan's ministry of education, culture, sports, science and technology (MEXT). Based on this government-supported five-year program, Urban Research Plaza at Osaka City University has stimulated international and interdisciplinary research on urban studies.
URP has already led to the launching of a new journal "City, Culture and Society (CCS)" published by Elsevier. This is the first challenge to publish a 'real' international journal from Asia. The 21st century has been dubbed the century of cities: sustainable cities, compact cities, post-modern cities, mega-cities. CCS focuses on urban governance, under the banner of cultural creativity and social inclusion. The aim of journal is to stimulate a new interdisciplinary paradigm that embraces multiple perspectives.
AUC is a project that aims to generate synergies between scholars and cross-fertilization of ideas. The meeting of AUC will be held at major cities in the world, and the meetings will generate temporary buzz for urban scholars. One of the expectations for AUC is a contribution towards polycentric landscape of academic production under globalization.
The next meeting will be held in London in June 2013 or July.
